OCT 25th – NOV 4th ZEN RANKIN: “Problems Similar to Yours, Only Drawn Like This.”

August 30, 2012 by admin

Late October at #Hashtag Gallery brings a journey through the mind of Sheridan Illustration Alumni Zen Rankin. Over a decade and a half of drawings, character development, and passion come together to bring you this extremely diverse, yet unified collection of work by this young Canadian artist.

In his own words “Since I was a teenager, I used the practice of creating images to better understand myself and the world around me. For fifteen years my states of mind have manifested into a large collection of surreal characters and vignettes. Today, this practice continues to lead me down a path of introspection, self-awareness, and inquiry into the limits of the human condition. Making these images continues to help me live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life.

Among the recurring characters are two that are closest to me. Queer the whitened devil was born from the ashes of trauma and protects the state of mind from intruders by any means necessary. Super Zen—the guy in the blue and green costume—was made from an intense desire to live a well-balanced life, always around to make sure things don’t get out of hand. Come join them on their adventures into the unknown. You may find out that you have something in common with them, perhaps more than you think.”

Show Runs October 25th-November 4th
