DIY ART STORAGE

April 8, 2014 by admin

So today, we were cleaning out the basement at #Hashtag Gallery, and realized we should probably have a better storage solution for keeping artwork down there… (A lot of artists forget to pick up artwork. Even when reminded…). We’d been talking to a friend last week about possibilities for building a type of vertical rack to slot paintings into and keep them elevated off the floor.

WELL it just so happened, that some of the stretcher bars we were moving to clean around, were the exact right size for what we needed to build a storage unit! So we grabbed a drill, some screws, and just went for it! We think it turned out better than some of the designs we’d researched online.

Here are some photos of the process. If you’re looking to make your own, and have some spare stretchers, give it a shot. It turned out to be fairly sturdy once it was set up!

Materials: 2 canvases 54″x48″, 3 canvases 48″x48″, and a bunch of screws.
